Do you know where your children are?

April 27, 2010

More importantly, do you know what they are doing?

More significantly, do you care?

If you read the Daily Mail, you would be forgiven for thinking that it’s OK for children of 14 to wander around a village at night, pissed out of their heads. However, some people in the village don’t want drunken children in an alcohol free disco, so they’ve been breath-testing the kids before they go in. If they’re over the limit, they don’t get in.

It’s not the first time that the Mail has raised the issue of underage drinking. In this article from 2007, the Mail reporter talks about children of 11 getting drunk regularly. Bleating about the problem doesn’t solve it – but when a police officer tries to tackle the problem head on, he is criticised.

Funnily enough, since the darlings of Broughton have been tested, anti-social behaviour has dropped. So perhaps PC Potter has found a way to solve a problem?

Never mind that – these little dears are having their fun curtailed. They can’t get slaughtered on Stella and go smashing wing mirrors off cars any more. Parents are having to face the fact that their treasures aren’t perfect and this will never do.

Apparently PC Potter should go back to knocking off motorists or catching burglars. In the meantime, if a group of drunken kids beats the crap out of an old person in Broughton, that will be the fault of the police for not tackling alcohol related disorder.
